As a former graduate student and then post-doctoral fellow who left academia, I feel it’s important for young scientists to both have the information they need to navigate the world of academic research and study, and to know what their options are if and when they choose to leave the academy. Until recently, there were relatively few such resources, especially for those leaving academic research. This is a series of articles I’ve written over the past few years, mostly for Canadian Science Publishing, meant to give early career researchers the information they need to succeed and make smart choices.
